    I'm looking at the top marginal rate, eg the highest rate on the rich.  They take in more in tax, but those are regressive VAT taxes.

    •  Looks like Norway has 3 brackets (0+ / 0-)

      One at 13.3, one at 22.3% and one at 25.3%.

      The first appears to apply to amounts above the personal credit allowance of about $105,850 up to 420,000 where the 22.3% kicks in (already well into our top bracket income) and after 682,500 the 25.3 kicks in.

      Not sure if I'm reading that table correctly but since you're the one that referenced it, I'm sure you'll enlighten me if I've got it wrong.

      If that's generally how their system works, I'd say it is weighted much more heavily towards taxing the wealthy than our system is.

      It's 'redistribution' whether it happens before or after the money is made and whether it goes up to a small group or down to a larger one.
