  •  Sure, but (0+ / 0-)

10 people making 50 euro and dodging the tax will have the same impact.  Given that in the EU the income distributions are tighter, the middle class tax dodging will have much more of an impact than in these United States.

    •  No, that's the problem. (5+ / 0-)

They can't hide the taxes the same way since it gets pulled out of their weekly pay check. And they pay at a lower rate. It would take huge numbers of middle class tax cheats to have the same impact of one upper class cheat.

Wal*Mart isn't the root of all evil but you can buy the plastic, cadmium-tainted, Chinese knock-off of it there for $4.27

If you can't increase taxes on the rich because they'll just hire lawyers and accountants to get around them anyway (as I believe our former President now residing in Texas was heard to say) then you just start assuming everyone is doing it so it's ok to do.

If it's a game to be well played for your own interests or is a deadly burden that must be avoided and not a civic obligation, then the whole concept changes as does the way people approach it.

It's 'redistribution' whether it happens before or after the money is made and whether it goes up to a small group or down to a larger one.
