    Dorgan has no reason to back off.  The fact that he is not running makes him untouchable.  I would bet he prevails.

    Keep in mind that while Wall Street banks don't like any of this bill, there are amendments floating around that they REALLY, REALLY don't like.  So they are having their lobbyists dump hoards of campaign cash into the pockets of certain Senators in the Dem leadership.  These Senators in turn are trying to keep these amendments from being brought up on the floor hot so much out of fear they may pass, but out of the fear of having to cast a vote on them.  they could probably band together with Republicans and kill these amendments, but they know that casting a vote in favor of Wall Street is politically risky to suicidal in the current "lets jail the bankers" feeling among the electorate.
