  •  Chinese Solar Hot Water (0+ / 0-)

According to a Chinese-American scientist at MIT, Chinese solar hot water heaters are blooming on roofs all across that country and cost about $300 each.  Installed.

Here is a Brazilian design for a solar hot water heater made, partially, from recycled plastic bottles:

For too many people, solar is all about the magic crystal that produces electricity.  I say a south-facing window is already a solar collector and that solar heat and hot water are much more affordable than solar electricity.

Not that I have anything against solar electricity.  I have one room essentially off-grid with small-scale PV, carry solar panels on my backpack for my lights when riding my bike at night, and advise people to consider the fact that Solar IS Civil Defense.

Solar is civil defense. Video of my small scale solar experiments at solarray.
