I would be lost without my furry friends. Happy to donate to such a worthwhile cause.

      Is that Falls Church VA?

      •  Yup. Not far from you, I guess (1+ / 0-)

Are you involved with any local rescue groups? One of our cats came from Feline Foundation, and one from Last Chance. The other was a stray my sister in Queens took in.
On a non-pet subject, do you have any opinion on what group I should donate to to help animals impacted by the disaster in the gulf? I'm so freaked out by the enormity of it. I can't bear to imagine how bad it is but I do want to try to do something to help.

with Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation. They go into high kill rural shelters and get animals out before they are euthanized.  They do dogs and cats, of course, but I'm cat specific.

Most of the rescue organizations I raised funds for during Katrina dealt with rescuing, sheltering and rehoming domestic animals.  They aren't doing anything for the Gulf wildlife as it's outside of their expertise.

So I think you should check out The National Wildlife Federation.  They seem to be involved and have the means to help.

We're very familiar with Lost Dog. My daughter's been volunteering for them at the Falls Church Petsmart on Saturdays and is finding it very rewarding. She "does" cats, and it is such a high when one she particularly likes gets a home.
Do you go to shelters to pull them? That would be a horrible job for me. I couldn't do it. But thank goodness some people are strong enough to do that.

I used to volunteer at a no-kill shelter in Illinois, and answering the phone or taking messages off the machine was a constant stream of "I have to get rid of...." Disgusting!
I hope you can somehow update us on that adorable baby. Sweet little doll.
Thank you again for a diary that is moving for so many reasons.
