were completely broken by the end of the war. Part of the success of the occupations was that there was no real opposition to US dictates. That won't be the case in Palestine. Palestinians are far from broken, and there will be opposition to more foreign rule. And the reality is that Palestine has been occupied for over 40 years now. There is no desire among Palestinians to have one foreign military replaced with another.

Look, if people are worried about stability, that's legitimate. One way to address that is to end the Israeli occupation in phases, and allow Palestinian institutions to take over gradually until it's a fully autonomous, independent, and sovereign state. There would be no need for the middle man that you envision.

The problem is that the occupation shows no signs of ending or slowing down. Israel is expanding its reach in the West Bank. To me, the border with Israel isn't nearly as important as the ability of a Palestinian state to function inside and outside them.

As for the EU, I think they have enough problems of their own with their members that they'll probably be quite hesitant to expand — especially in that direction — any time soon.

Can't see much to disagree with. I question whether the Palestinians would be willing to go along with an express concept of gradualism, but that seems the most likely outcome at this point.

It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both.

Where crazed states which involved the body politic at the extreme.  Where all the love and focus of those societies where concentrated on their unquestionable leaders.  The death of Hitler and the unconditioned surrender of the emperor of Japan to Douglas MacArthur effectively destroyed the societies willingness to resist any further.  Those where imperialistic colonial governments who's citizens viewed their leaders as infallible gods.  The comparison to Palestinians or their society is the complete opposite.

Palestinians are people who are anti-imperialistic to the core.  They even revolted during the times of the ottoman empire.  The Israeli occupation as well as anti-imperialistic struggles around the world has helped forge such an identity.  You can't just de-"blahblah" them since they share this aspect with each other.

I will vote, but always with a caution that voting is not crucial, and organizing is the important thing.
