when i first heard about this my immediate response to the headline that he was denied entry into israel was 'well, he wasn't trying to enter israel now was he'.

this interview confirmed that. he said they 'seemed upset about the fact' he 'just'..and then he rephrased 'taking an invitation from Bir Zeit and had no plans' to speak at any university in israel.

i wonder if he had planned to enter israel if they would have treated the situation differently. they were snubbed so they snubbed him back.

mistake: they headlined there article 'Noam Chomsky refused entry to Israel'. Even FOX News managed to get it right, but Ha'aretz, the supposed bastion of the Israeli liberal-left, still can't get it into its head that the West Bank is Palestinian territority on which Israel is squatting. It's not "Israel".

(This is a similar problem to when so-called 'progressives' in the US refer to the Israeli government as "Jerusalem", thereby legitimising at a stroke Israel's illegal annexation of East Jerusalem and much of the surrounding area, all of which is, to quote the unanimous verdict of the International Court of Justice, 'occupied Palestinian territory').
