    is danger of violent behavior and severe mental illness. There're plenty of civil commitment laws on the books for the severely mentally ill. Should all those be scrapped as well?

      One could argue their mental states are as altered and manic as any mental patient.

      The question is why aren't we attacking addicts too?

      Sex offenders are an easy cop out because no one wants to appear to defend a sex offender. It is our most heinous crime in society for most.

        while working homeless shelters making a comparison between the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Which is why they have different legal and civil consequences. The actions and causes may have similar consequences but the legal system will separate them, similar to how there are 3d degree manslaughter and 1st degree murder crimes and punishments.
