  •  Reid has been a terrible leader. If the Dems (0+ / 0-)

want any of us to give a damn after the past 18 months, nearly all of them better do tons of improving. Bad as they've been, Reid has more improvement to make than most. He will remain leader if he gets reelected. Seems inherently self-defeating, but typical of the Democratic Party, to have a majority leader who must sweat his own reelection. But after all, Reid did get the job when few else wanted it.

    •  Reid did get HCR through the Senate (0+ / 0-)

battered and bruised, but that's still more than any other Dem Majority Leader has accomplished. And he did it in the face not only of solid GOP opposition (granted, it took him a long time to acknowledge that) but also while having a far less united group of Senators on his side.

The notion of "60 Democratic Senators" has always been a myth. First, 2 are independent, and while Sanders can be counted on to keep his word, Liebermann can't even be counted on to remember it. Then you have Dems like Nelson (NE) and Lincoln.

What Will Rogers said all those years ago is still true: The Democrats are not an organized political party.

It is not within the powers of the government to help its citizens get into heaven, nor to save them from hell.
