    trouble and with were dishonest the customs officials. It's unfortunate that they didn't give you a harder time.
    It wouldn't be uncommon to be questioned and searched crossing over from Canada to the U.S. It's part of living in world where

      The reason the cigars were destroyed is that they could be carrying insects which could devastate American crops.  That's why he wasn't worried about the chocolates, which were likely wrapped in plastic.  

      Yes, it was a PITA to be questioned and searched.  It could have been because of your travel to Cuba, it could have been random.  

      But to be outraged that the customs service did its job and found some (but not all) you knew were innappropriate to bring into the country is silly.

      Jill, I usually enjoy your diaries and respect your well-researched views.  In this instance, I think you're off base.
