Running the numbers, we get a death risk from cigars or pipes, of 1 in 2,000, or a total of approx. 12,000 deaths per year that could potentially be attributed to cigars or pipes.

That compares to about 43,000 violent deaths per year due to murders, suicides, and auto fatalities in which alcohol is a factor.  Not even counting the fatalities due to alcoholism itself.

So if you want to poison yourself in your own home, feel free, as long as you don't subject minors to second-hand drink.

And if you're so concerned about the health impacts of pipes and cigars, you really ought to go for bringing back alcohol prohibition first: you'll save more than three times as many lives.
