It's more like gold-standard dystopia.  The gold-standard only works when lots of new gold is suddenly made available to grease the wheels of business.  The gold bugs all look back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when new gold finds were being made about every thirty years.  We aren't going to be finding much new gold in Siberia, South Africa, Canada, the US, Australia or South America.  How do the gold bugs account for the intrinsic deflation their monetary policy forces on society?  It's an "I got mine" philosophy dressed up with lipstick, but it still stinks.

Thulium is more abundant than gold, but harder to purify. It is difficult to separate from other rare earth metals, of which it is the rarest. Thulium ions are blue.
