    that most of our undocumented workers are in any position to take a job, to "live a dream", from an immigrant who is highly educated.

    I'm not discounting the wonderful story you share, which is actually a very different issue. I, myself, had a foreign partner who, while educated, was unable ultimately, to secure a permanent visa. Which is funny, because I worked legally in his country (Austria) for several years.

      You're correct in identifying the point in which my analogy breaks down, and I basically agree with you.  However, In this context 'living the dream' was limited to remaining in this country long term.  Implied in this is the eventual legalization, or path to, for those currently here -- which I am in favor of.  

      I hope that's not as confusing as it sounds in my head.

        And I'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way. And I'm glad your wife was able to remain with you in the country. She is clearly a valuable asset.

        I would have married my partner, too. Unfortunately, DOMA got in the way of that.
