has set precedent in a court of law that says that they - as a "news" organization - have no responsibility to report the truth.

The "fourth estate" has been vindicated in their quest to keep the people in the dark by the third branch of "government".  Ironic that the media's vital role in a democracy is to keep the people informed.  And our courts gave them carte blanche to lie their asses off and report whatever the hell they want without respect to silly things like "facts" or "truth" and with no accountability.

I'm not prepared to say that we haven't already lost our democracy because I think the jury's currently out on that one, but I do believe that if it weren't for the Internet, the idea of American democracy would have died decades ago.  The Internet may not save democracy but it would have been declared dead long ago without it.

Which is why big business - anathema to democracy - so badly wants to kill it.

I think I actually cited that very case here somewhere.

People laughed at us at first, for pointing out the significance of Akre/Wilson vs. New World. Now who's laughing?

Well, I would be, if only it were funny...
