critical thinking skills are not dead yet, merely endangered.
          That is our defense.
          Coupled with action, of course.

what you think should replace the present system, how for example, you think the Constitution should be amended (or rewritten entirely).

damn thing's long enough, ain't it?
But like everyone else, I've got my ideas on how things could be different.
I think corporate personhood is incompatible with representative democracy.
I think labor should be taxed less than wealth, especially speculative wealth.
I think a lot of stuff, but I don't pretend to be right about any of it.

most of which I have now read all the way through and would love to recc another one explaining how the people could be mobilized to want to live in a normal country.

          •  Demographics and class war (0+ / 0-)

I think the solution will be as ugly and mindless as most historical processes are.  Whites will become a minority.  They will either go quietly or try to strip non-whites of their right to vote.  Where does this leave the corporate barons?

Ever notice that African-American culture may celebrate greed as much as white American culture, but NOT as a social good?  Or how successful blacks are much more visible in making big contributions to black colleges and black community institutions while the far larger number of white tycoons get away with doing whatever they please with their billions?

It's as if the message in black America is, We know that capitalism is powerful, but we will not pretend that it doesn't hurt good people, and we expect the successful to compensate for that.

Actually, I think I've just described the attitude of most folks in Europe, or most Japanese or Koreans or Chinese.  They're all normal.  White Americans are the abnormal ones - the last believers that greed is actually an unshaded social good.

That is why the corporations need America as it is.  If whites become a minority, the barons can no longer depend on the Pentagon or all the other branches of the government to cater to their need for expansion.

Once America becomes truly multiethnic, there is danger that workers will recognize their shared class interests across racial lines, and then we'd be like, well, the French.

The corporations could no longer use the carefully-constructed front of American capitalism to fool countries into turning their economies over to the far right, as detailed in Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine".

Sure, they'd still make tons of money.  But that's never good enough for them, is it?

Note that the inevitable victory of non-whites and the death of Anglo-American capitalism does not mean our descendants will be living in paradise.  Too much damage to the people and the environment may be done.  If the corporations are vicious enough to fund a civil war, most Americans have been too softened by corporate rule to survive the disruption to basic services.  The African-Americans of 1970 might have had enough residual skills to survive the aftermath; now we're all diabetic couch potatoes together.

However, there are plenty of folks to our South who have survived in worse conditions.  Perhaps they have their own spin on American ideals that will prove more sustainable than our 200-year Ponzi scheme.
