    How and why did the miners win?

    How did they prevail against a determined multinational corporation dedicated to undermine their union rights?

    It's nice that they won, but what happened?

    •  They Didn't Collapse (5+ / 0-) Rio Tinto expected they would.  RTZ came back to the table and the union gave up nothing.  RTZ hurriedly agreed to the union's proposals, then took a powder for three weeks to try to sweat them out.  ILWU 30 didn't budge.  RTZ gave up their hideous demands and welcomed their "valued" workforce back with open arms.

      I wish I could explain it better, but I think it best that you hear from the miners - they earned this win:
