    TX textbooks now refer to the slave trade as the Atlantic Triangular trade so slaves were really like molasses or rum except they were people. Of course this ignores the internal slave trade after 1806 and the outlawing of the African trade. The westward movement of southern settlers meant the movement of some 1,000,000 slaves into the West, most of them moved as a commodity by slave traders.

    This also ignores the role of slave catchers and the Underground Railroad. (Of course, Newt Gingrich and Phyllis Schlafly are now covered in the texts while MLK and Malcolm X have been dropped.)
