While it is occasionally 110+ and occasionally <40, Davis has a pretty awesome climate for bicycling. Six months out of the year are guaranteed to be rain-free.</p>

It certainly does get hot in the Summertime, but speaking from experience, I do just fine riding home from the office when it's 110. I simply change my shirt when I get home and drink a pint of water. It makes me appreciate all the more the Delta breeze which blows in from the eastern reaches of the San Francisco Bay, meaning that by 8pm I can turn the air conditioning off and open the windows at nighttime even in the middle of Summer (unless there's a thermal inversion, but that happens about literally two nights per year).

Is Davis weather ideal? No, probably not. But it's absolutely good for cycling. And, seriously, the place is flat as a pancake. There are bike lanes everywhere. Cars actually stop for the bicyclists (in fact, the cars are TOO deferential, stopping when they have the right of way and it's the cyclists' responsibility to stop). It's no Helsinki, but it's pretty darned nice.

and I've lived in the Valley. As well as in Lake and Mendocino counties.

We have very different ideas of what constitutes an acceptable climate.

Well, there are few if any places with a superior climate. But Davis isn't bad. 115 is hardly the norm.

        •  I saw enough of it... (0+ / 0-)

when I lived in the valley.

The summers were the worst I've seen... and the winters, although they are not as bad as can be found, still sucked.

Davis has as a matter of governance created a great place to live by bicycle... but I cannot call it the best place to be a cyclist... mostly because of the weather.
