  •  Hm. (7+ / 0-)

Whole thing goes pop. Oil gushes out at a much, much higher rate than before. No fixing it until a relief well is complete, somewhere around August at the earliest.

    •  Okay. And what will that do to the ocean? (4+ / 0-)

How much oil is in there? Do they know? Obviously the Gulf Coast is through. Are they angling for the Atlantic Ocean as well? I'm not a scientist or anything and just want to know why they are risking so much, or how much at that.

        1. When oil degrades it uses oxygen. Pumping the dispersant into the gusher caused a lot of the oil to remain under water. The oxygen for degradation will thus come from the water, and not from the atmosphere.

This is a bad thing. (As a reference, other bad things include climate change, illegal wars, blood diamonds and auto-tune. Auto-tune is mid-range. I'd place the current clusterfuck slightly higher.)

        1. A fuck-load.
        1. Yes, they know, but they'll only tell shareholders.
        1. They don't care which ocean they fuck up, as long as they turn a profit.
        1. Why the risk? They need another solid gold yacht.
        1. How much risk? None. Well, that's what they thought. Civil suits under the Clean Water Act might adjust their thinking.
