  •  Indianapolis Motor Speedway has seating for...... (4+ / 0-)

250,000 and capacity for several hundred-thousand more in the infield.  Austin ain't Indy but I'd hope an annual F1 race would attract a couple of hundred-thousand fans.

I think there's several tracks in US that could accommodate it, the promoter grew up w/ the head of F1..go figure. My car nut friend sez the good news is that once equipped for F1, it will also host everything else. We drove by a huge track in PA years ago, It was kinda real hilly, almost mountainy.. I couldnt believe the noise level, mighta just been the canyon echos though.
Good for the city? Depends... where you need to go. Downtown is essentially closed every fair weather weekend, due to some foot race or festival- really kool, unless you live or have a small business nearby

      •  It would be nice to see more NASCAR road races... (4+ / 0-)

and there a several sports car racing leagues.  I would watch more NASCAR but there are way too many races where they are just turning left.  There was some kind of fall-out and there was an Indy split.....  I think everyone is back together and now under the Indy Racing League.  One family owns IRL and the Indy Motor Speedway under the name Hulman Co.  NASCAR is also privately owned and operated by the France family.  I'm in St. Louis City and I can hear the killer be whine of the indy cars across the river about 15 miles away in Collinsville Il.  It is loud.
