  •  Ya THINK Suttles???? (5+ / 0-)

"I probably should apologize to folks that we haven't been giving more data on that," Suttles said when asked why it took so long for BP  to announce it had suspended the top kill. "It was nothing more than we are so focused on the operation itself."

      •  you know, im pretty fair and have so far (6+ / 0-)

been quite prepared and still do think that BP is working as hard as possible to stop this catastrophe if only because, as Obama said yesterday, "their interest aligns with the publics in stopping the leak" due to economic reasons.  He also said it doesn't align with the publics in terms of transparency but when it comes down to it, but i won'
t complaining that they aren't trying

There is NO excuse though for letting everyone think they were watching a live feed of the top kill op continuing when they had stopped 16 hours before!

Apart from anything else, it was PR stupidity,no reason to lie about it so long as they explained what was going on. It isn't as if they weren't going to be telling the truth by the end of the day.

        Fucking morons.

Would love to have been a fly on the wall when Obama heard about this.

BP has zero credibility, they have been caught in way too many lies.

          •  oh not because they have the same reason (3+ / 0-)

we do, its jsut that until this is stopped they are causing more and more problems for themselves both financially and in terms of more regulations, plus incurring the fury of their stockholders.

Sure it went up 5% yesterday, on news it "worked" but its not going to stay that way until it actually does.  The shareholders and the company know that every day is going to cost them more and more in costs as well.

So i have no illusions about why, just that they want to as badly as we do for self serving reasons.

That is what I was thinking, and I can just imagine what words Rahm used when he told him. Sizzle.

Perhaps someone knitting his name into a scarf in front of the BP offices would get his attention.  The fact is, the BP senior staff doesn't give a shit because they don't think they have skin in the game.

BP's staff expect to escape the way corporate criminals always do, by spinning.  You can already see the defense emerging: 1) it was BP's fault but the cause was mistakes made by mid-level managers and lower level staff, not to mention the contractors errors, and 2) BP itself should be held blameless and allowed to go on with its business - and penalties/fines will only deter future energy supply, so the US must forgive and forget.  If we want to fight that nonsense, the terms of the debate must be set now to make it obvious to the American public that this sort of argument is nonsense.
