Just because they stop pumping to assess their progress doesn't mean they've stopped or that someone isn't being forthright. This is totally consistent with what they said this morning.

Top KIll describes a broad procedure, not the simple pumping of mud. They're going to start and stop this. They're worried about making things worse so they are being cautious, but they haven't called off the effort.

You guys would declare that a search and rescue effort was called off every time someone stopped to take a pee.

every syllable of what BP says regardless of their less than stellar record of honesty so far.

          •  In the case of the capping effort (5+ / 0-)

more than half the people working on this aren't employed by BP. They're employed by their competitors, academia, private contractors, and officials from DOI and DOE. There's plenty of self-interest in that room to paint BP as liars. They aren't going to get away with any lies involved in this effort.

Now, that doesn't apply to the booming effort or any other thing that BP says, but that capping team simply will not be able to allow a lie to spread very far.

Critical thinking and evaluation of information is part of the drill, you know. So far, with respect to the capping effort, I've yet to find a situation where what was said by the engineers (I'm not talking about the PR people) didn't match what we could see or could be verified from other sources.

when I'm wrong. Did I not qualify my statement that it didn't look like the previous efforts? And my assertion is easily disprovable - we just wait and watch and either we'll see the leak and I'll be right or the cloud will go away and I was wrong.

I think they have started pumping, I think the ROV went to move to take a sample, had a line caught in the thruster which caused it to pull debris around in a strange way, the other ROV grabbed the line, the ROV took it's sample and now the cloud has gone.

Is the assertion that we're being lied to easily disprovable? Or could it equally be a lie? How do we know?
