series by David Gerrold, so I will. There are at least four books, maybe more.

It's a war (on Earth) against an alien invasion of plants and animals designed to make the Earth hospitable to the aliens. An eco-system war, sort of. They're alien-forming our planet (as opposed to us terraforming a planet to make it suitable for us).

Imagine non-native invasive species, but instead of earthly kudzu and flying carp, they're plants and animals from another planet.

Never read it but had a friend who was obsessed with them. I have however read the Starwolf series by Gerrold. It was really good in a Star Trekkie kind of way.

a classic, and several other episodes, so he definitely has a Star Trek connection.

Also, i just googled him and found his website. Two nuggets of wisdom from gerrold.com:

Rachel Maddow continues to be one of the best news commentators since Edward R. Murrow. She actually deals with facts. Amazing.

"I'm an old man, I'm gonna die soon, I have a right to be cranky."

Joe Lieberman once again demonstrates why he's the worst Senator that money can buy. He doesn't stay bought.
