is just the start of this disaster movie

The repeated high tech failures to cap the well are costly, embarassing, and providing something comparable to the widespread urban warfare of WWII as a genocidal threat to life in the Gulf, but just as frightening is that these "nothing can go wrong, go wrong, go wrong" planners are the same ones telling us there is no such thing as peak oil.

With an end to deepwater drilling for the forseeable future, Peak Oil is hard upon us.

For marine life in the Gulf this is the holocaust, but for humans the perfect storm of climate change, a stalled economy and a future with no more cheap fossil fuel solutions may be upon us before enough of the promising alternative energy solutions are fully implemented.

Indeed while the initial projections of several months to get the relief wells drilled may turn out to be the only way to truly stop the oil volcano, by then we will not only be coming into hurricane season but having to deal with the fact that we have indeed run out of oil and we cannot "drill baby drill" or even "spill baby spill" our way out of it.

The greed of these planners who decided their companies could afford to skip the safety gear and go for the multi-billion dollar profits as quick and dirty as possible using lawyers to quell the lawsuits instead of blowout preventers to stop the oil has us so pretty outraged now, but that is as nothing compared to what we will be feeling when we discover that we can't afford to commute to work this winter.

I agree with everything you said, and it is thoughtful and well-written.  But think about the cost of food, goods, that have been so cheap thanks to cheap transportation.  Everything will be more expensive.  The retailers will feel the effects.

We are in for a time of real hardship, economically, at a time when we can't afford any more.

      All politics is class-warfare.
