In a crisis situation the principal communication task is to communicate honestly about the situation and help people bear their justified distress.  Premature, dishonest, or disingenuous over-reassurance is a cardinal crisis communication sin.  So is cavalier, unempathic dismissiveness.

My interest in an ideal core curriculum for a liberal arts college would incorporate risk and trust communication as well as notational and value themes. When overlaid with a geospatial and technological literacy component, the conventional canon of trivium and quadrivium is easily assimilated.
