    just gave my husband the story "The Word for World is Forest."  I didn't name it in the above post because I was thinking mostly about classic military fiction, but if I was including guerrilla warfare, that would certainly be on my list.

    Of everyone I named, I'd suggest Lucius Shepard (definitely a thinking man's writer), Bujold, Scarborough, and Moon as the best choices.
