and two broken backs later - i'll stick to my horse cuz HE has FOUR legs (and a much stronger back than mine!)

i miss biking - used to love it - thought nothing of biking to the barn in long island in 35 degree weather doing 30 miles roundtrip and riding in between.

ah, the days of youth... GIVE ME BACK MY BODY! DAMNIT!!!

    •  Yeah, I was gonna say. (0+ / 0-)

Some people can "get in shape" by biking.  Some can't.

Not that I oppose the idea for those who can!  I just hate to see those who can't marginalized or left out.

      •  How was anyone marginalized or left (0+ / 0-)

        out by my diary?

        •  Well, they weren't mentioned at all. (0+ / 0-)

Which is fine in a single instance.  But I can't tell you how many times I see "just bike!  You can do it!" comments, diaries, articles, news stories, etc. etc. etc.  And the subtext (and sometimes text) is, "anyone can do it."  People who cannot are, at best, glossed with a single dismissive sentence.

People with physical limitations and disabilities are pretty much invisible in media outside that specifically addressed to them.  That's what being marginalized and left out looks like.

I'm not angry or blaming you or upset about your diary.  But that's why I wanted to mention it.
