The state's a big real estate Ponzi scheme. My Florida native wife was ready to leave for the Midwest when I'd had my fill.
It changed so much from 1986 until I left in 2003. Well on it's way to Somalia-zation.

Where I lived, a good response time for police and fire, IN AN EMERGENCY was 30 minutes. Roads that were originally orange grove service roads were blacktopped with little preparation in order to be major traffic arteries. Little to no funding for building the new schools, sewer and water plants, etc etc that were built on the former orange grove.

All so some rich white bubba Christianist could live like a Duke in a gated community.

    A total shit hole.

F the right wing whiners. I don't care about them any more they can all F themselves for all I care.

I can think of several other areas that fit your description.

I like it here, honest I do, but the quality of life deteriorated noticeably with the advent of the housing bubble.  My personal opinion is that this state is going to revert, over the next fifty years, to being the thinly-populated backwater it once was, especially once energy scarcity makes it too expensive to run the air conditioner.
