drilling in TX and OK, the farmers are merely granting rights to drill. For which they are paid. If a well comes in, the drilling rig is taken elsewhere, collection begins, and the farmers receive royalty checks on volume. The land is not handed over, the mineral rights for exploration and drilling are leased to the oil company.

Drilling companies will poison all the water, not just where they are drilling.

Fracking involves injecting poisons into the ground- invented by Halliburton!

they came up with using nukes in Pennsylvania too. Idiots. I recently inherited some gas and exploration leases in OK, grandma didn't even still own the land - just the mineral rights. Far as I know none of the wells involved fracking, they've been productive for many years.

is a fracking BAD idea, the Gold for utter destruction of water supplies from human pollution has to go to King Coal and their rather amazing idea of fracking entire mountains (the most ancient and abundant mountains on Earth, to be exact) into rubble and dumping the dross unceremoniously into the surrounding watershed with a waiver of EPA's itty hands. Hell, I wouldn't give oil exploration on-shore more than the Bronze. Silver goes to our agricultural system, which not only pollutes entire watersheds and drainage regions with unpronounceable chemicals and unspeakable toxins, it drains entire regional aquifers while its at it!

Besides, everybody who's anybody drinks water from little hormone-disrupting plastic bottles made from petroleum these days, don't they? [/snark]
