  •  still wondering why they don't do a circular cut (6+ / 0-)

and remove the outer ring.  less chance of pinching from inner pipe that way.

if the pincher has broken through both pipes, then maybe that is a possibility.

also, if not broken through - why not a cut through both after the bend so that the outer pipe could be cut away.

doesn't look good from here - worrisome.

    rats.

would that we had a fly on the wall (or fish at the window) to know what they're saying on the big boat.

I'm really surprised they didn't cut through the riser casing 1" all the way around.

Though, I imagine it will be very difficult to ever reseat that cutter thing with no visibility now that the gas is coming out of the cut(kerf).

One other consideration is that if there is the drill string in there which appears might be true, then you will cut the casing loose but you will still have the well bore pipe and the drill string still bent 90 degrees with the casing riding around it like meat on a drumstick.  It could be bad situation.

I'm not sure how they can even cut the inner pipe if it moves at all.  If it has up and down play, the cutter will bind on the outer pipe.  If the inner pipe moves when you press on it, it will also bind.

the same thing we are... why  not cut the outer pipe then go for the inner.  there is a pic posted of one of those pipes cut - wow - it is about 4" or more thick at the outer wall.
