    Anyone who has spent time around people who have actually shot guns knows that if you're going to reach for a firearm in a crisis, you don't threaten to shoot, you actually shoot. Nor do you shoot to wound, you shoot to kill. That's the self-defense of it. But then someone dies. I can hear the chorus of "I-could-give-a-shit-if-that-piece-of-shit-dies-;-he-was-threatening-..." But in that attitude we lose a bit of what makes humanity anything special at all. I don't advocate taking that right away from you, but I can't be party to it myself.

    I have never had to fire my weapon in order to protect me or mine. I hope I never do. I don't think my attitude would be what you said above, but I do think that if it comes down to it, I'd rather he die than me.
