    though Kennedy's opinion equates them with all "associations of citizens" as one legal group, regardless of the fact that corporations are inherently different from other associations under the law. Only corporations have legal standing, which is why even community groups incorporate. The Citizens United decision basically threw that distinction out the window, even though it is an essential baseline idea within our legal system.

    What it comes down to is that Kennedy and the rest of the majority did (even though they concealed it within deceptive language) extend 1st Amendment protections (and thus all other constitutional protections by extension) to corporate "persons".
