....Pelosi is certainly pro-business and a moderate. But, she's also no fool and has been in politics a very, very long time. She is not so tied to corporate interests that she can't or won't advance at least some good anti-corporate legislation. Particularly in order to embarrass the Republicans.

The Progressives of the early decades of the 20th century were very enthusiastic supporters of regulating business, but they were also very hostile to populists.

I agree that Pelosi is much more progressive on the national scale than on the particular scale used in SF.  But I think it's important to distinguish between progressivism and populism.  There's overlap between the two, but they aren't the same thing.

. . . are the same thing:  Both seek to undo a century-plus of corporatist legislation that has screwed the general populace big-time, and restore the primacy of human beings over corporate fictions.  Of course, as with "socialist" and "liberal," the corporatist media have one all they could to turn both words ("populist" and "progressive") into dirty ones, by sullying them with phony substitutes offered under the same name.  It is important not to confuse the real things with the corporate-sponsored substitutes, of which "National Socialism" in Germany would be the classic example.
