    For sure. They should have practiced all this long ago, every time they went deeper.

    BUT, because it costs MONEY they did not. They just blindly went forward, in the dark, without a clue.

      there should have been a lot more research.  Of course, practical experience, real time conditions would still be beyond practice.  Sometimes what you think will be the conditions and what are the conditions are different.  Which is why they created the words 'redundant systems' and 'multiple failsafes'.

        at least if we don't forget the lessons. As horrific as this is they have learned a good deal, not the least of which is as long as there are oil wells on water this country needs a national plan for emergencies like this. What hurt as much as anything is the lack of response, not from want but from ability. We must never ever be in the position again where the only experts, the only necessary equipment belongs to an oil company. We have disaster plans for just about everything, but not oil spills. We need jobs, well we also need technology to deal with the next spill.
