    But I'll note that both the tax rates and the social benefits provided by the government are higher than in the US.  Even the right-wing parties in Israel tend to be right-wing on security matters but pretty liberal economically.  Likud is the closest thing to an exception to that (and even Likud is far to the left economically compared to the US Repubs)--but the other right-wing parties tend to be more socialist in orientation and some are left of the US Dems.

      Although Netanyahu himself is a Thatcherite, most of the Likud would be Blue Dog Democrats in the US. And every other political party is to the left of the Democrats in the US.
