    You wouldn't even need the high pressure cylinder. The concrete could have circular rebar embeded as it is poured.

    You will have to change the diameter of the dome cover and make it as small as possible. It needs to withstand 25,000 PSI.

    A 24 inch top would have to withstand 12,000,000 pounds of force. A 12 inch top would have to withstand about 3,000,000 pounds.

      Isn't this just sitting on mud? I imagine covering a spewing tap in my garden with a bucket. Even if I sit on the bucket the water will start oozing out the edges and eventually erode the dirt and come out with as much volume as ever.

        the concrete could possibly lower the possibility of the BOP breaking. With enough concrete, I'd like to think it would hold

        I don;t know the details, but I am sure the BOP isn't just sitting on the hole. It must be bolted to something keeping it on the drill hole. With the cylinder/cap concreted to the BOP, and the BOP secured to the hole, it just might be enough to stop the leak.

          the well itself -- another three miles down.  But it's been bashed around, is/was off kilter, and got beat to shit when DH went down.  Plus we don't know the integrity of the mud down there at this point.

          They may... we don't.

        so it would depend on how well the cement was sealed to the BOP's body. BOP has enough protrusions to lock into the main body of the cement.

        Hydraulic cement expands as it cures. But, you'd have to encase everything in a large rubber bag/liner to keep sea water out for a proper cure. This would preclude a good seal.

        Now, the more I think about this plan, the more things occur to me that would make it difficult to achieve.

          might work- pour smaller bags (in plastic as you suggest) instead of one large pour into the cylinder.

          I'm just trying to find reasons this couldn't be done. At the rate BP has been going, and with the likely success of the 'relief wells' being in question, I really, really think we need to be looking at plans C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, plan 9, catch 22, and the answer to everything; 42.
