  •  My spouse and I have learned (5+ / 0-)

how to transfer his mother from her wheelchair to our car using a sliding board; it's far safer for her and less stress on the back for either of us (the spouse does most of the work; I stand in back of the wheelchair to make sure the board doesn't slip and to give an additional butt boost to get her over the wheel). And I'm getting to be quite an expert at getting her chair situated on local transit buses; I don't drive anyway so transit is my main source of transportation. She's also considering getting a power chair eventually so she can go out on her own on transit, especially to her doctor's office about a 20 minute bus ride down the street. Got to admit the prospect is both thrilling and scary...
