    isn't an ideal example but the Act Blue process you describe is the exact problem. Considering how often politicians have to run, money speaks loudest and having a trusted clearinghouse that vets a candidate in advance of the payout is what seems lacking on the progressive side. They are more responsive to an organization holding out a $5,000 donation than to 1,000 people with $5 apiece and disparate agenda.
