    ...the equation of this issue with the torture issue here confuses me.

    Torture, at least as to how we chose to pursue and conduct/condone it post 9/11 violated a wealth of international laws and treaties, and our own laws here at home. In the end, justifying it meant by definition one looked outside of the rule of law and toward an "ends justify the means" argument to support those actions.

    In this case, these whistleblowers are violating laws. We can debate the merits of those laws, much as the GOP would have us debate the merits of torture policy and laws, but we cannot have it both ways.

    Just a point of clarification, though I concur with the bulk of your post.
