out a few years ago that apparently found gay men have, on average, larger penises. Lol.

Seem more geared toward entertainment than anything else.

The ones that disturb me, though, are those that are concerned with the question of whether authorities can use science to determine the sexual orientation of individuals -- without the subject having to "confess" outright to the orientation.

I don't know why we need technologies that allow doctors, experts, parents or government officials -- you choose -- to discover the innate sexual desires of an individual, perhaps without his or her consent.

Gay people actually do have an ability to determine other people's sexual orientation.  Because they -- we -- are in the minority, such a skill is helpful for mating.  But we also have an interest in this skill because we know that there is safety in numbers.

The interest of general society in detecting gayness in individuals is hardly so benign.

Perpetuate the fetish of gay people as subjects of study -- again, not that the diary above has much to do with this kind of scientific investigation.  But from a sociological perspective, I wonder if these studies do not reveal more about the systems of power from which they arise ... than they do about gay people.

I'd say that the penis size study says much more about the fear of straight men being the object of gay sexual interest, for example.
