  •  This will be the serious test of the Obama (10+ / 0-)

administrations integrity and resolve on this matter.

Do they get some credible whole-system, full-life-cycle economic and environmental cost impact estimates and then move for a freeze of BP assets.  At least, domestically.  I am not sure of the legality of the global playing field.

Or do they get away with the fantasy that $5 billion is going to cover this?

What is the Gulf fishing and vacation travel industries worth?

How about health claims and impacts on this next couple of generations of children who will be eating much higher levels of chemical contamination in their food?  Folks eating contaminated shellfish 50 years from now, will not even know where it came from.

I just read Florida shore real estate is starting to quiver, even before we've had a hurricaine push heavy oil inland.

What if all coatal real estate in the Gulf lost 10% to 25% of it's value?   How much would this be?

What about secondary economic impacts.  How many supply industries will fail because fishermen and oil workers are out of work?  Local restaurants, car dealers?

Yes, I think your trillion dollar estimate is much closer than the $5 billion estimate.

How quickly will the Obama administration, and the Democrats push to get these damage estimate sharpened up enough to stand up in the courts?

Who will speak for the secondary and tertiary stakeholders who do not know what their claim are yet, like cancer victoms and others who will suffer adverse health effects?
