  •  Following the rules is no excuse for Obama... (0+ / 0-)

...for inaction on a problem as severe at the oil spill. It is insufficient to keep giving the President a pass because of "rules" or conservatives in Congress or in the cause of bi-partisanship, or because BP is too big to fail.  Our President, if not THE most powerful man in the world, is certainly in the top echelon. He needs to marshall his resources to take substantive action in the Gulf... he could become the nexus around whom most of the world's scientists, environmentalists, progressives, and humanitarians would coalesce, but that takes bold action- something President Obama seems reluctant to embrace.

    •  So once they coalesce around him what's the next (1+ / 0-)

Take the whole big squirming mass and sink it 5,000 feet deep to plug the leak?

      •  No. The squirming mass of right thinking people. (0+ / 0-)

..with various talents, expertise, and support begin to take on the massive environmental issues; invest in clean energy, go forward with light rail... a big public works initiative that gives jobs to deserving folks...cleans up the waterways..builds bike paths.  Maybe start with a pilot program in one location that can be the model for many others.
Obama can tap into tremendous talent for the good of the country and create a legacy that will live on for generations.  The alternative is that we continue denuding and damaging the planet, reactively.
