those from districts dependent on defense contracts being happy about cutting off the flow of welfare and pork into their districts.

I think they'll be just perfectly fine with their hypocrisy so long as the money pours in.

If government is small enough to drown in a bathtub, then it's too small to clean up the Gulf.

    •  Southern GOP will newer be happy, so what (5+ / 0-)

they are the same people that scream everytime someone says we need to raise taxes.  They don't get a vote because their 'family values' bullshit has destroyed this country.

Obama dined with David Brooks, Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer & George Will; but not with Kos

completely disarmed by paying their version of the military industrial complex to do something else more productive. The subsidies were reduced over time so there were actual savings, but allowing for a transition.

That seems like a good plan in the current situation.

Get the costs off the military budget, and transfer them (and the people) to other kinds of productive work making things/repairing things that have been let go far too long.

We desperately need a high speed rail system. Bridges need to be repaired all over the country. Green energy with distributed networks needs to be built out.

Schools need to be rebuilt and modernized so that kids have access to wet labs and computer labs for science and technology courses.

Our factories need to be modernized and rebuilt to modern specifications.

The list is endless - all more productive than building weapons and letting them begin rusting right away, or worse, putting them to use against some hapless group of brigands or another.

We could even contribute more to foreign aid to help African countries develop their own economies and stop the senseless war that was so horrifyingly depicted in the Doctors without Borders movie that is making the rounds now.
