  •  The space program... (none)
...used to be really cool and cutting-edge. I think what captivated us was the possibility that, someday, we might all get to go. As time wore on and the space program became mired in the same old thing, we lost our patience, and now most voters don't care about space. After all, we don't seem to be getting anything out of it.

That's why the future of space exploration is probably not in the hands of governments, but in the private sector. The coolest thing I saw this year was SpaceShipOne.

    So cool.

Putting people into low earth orbit is not hard, and is not science. It is pretty cool technology, but, then, so is this computer I'm using.

The real science is still being done by NASA, and it is way cooler than sending millionaires for a joyride into the bottom reaches of space.

For example, within a decade, we should have a satellite capable of detecting earth-like planets circling nearby stars. We've detected over 100 gas super-giants, but this new satellite will allow us to detect planets where earth-like life could evolve.
