  •  The problem is that (2+ / 0-)

the deficit hawks are out in force NOW, demanding budget deficits be tackled NOW in the middle of the recession when unemployment is over 9%.  Being penny-wise now is only being pound-foolish, as refusing to help the states and forcing the layoffs of state employees is only going to increase the unemployment rate, while at the same time congress is so fixated on the deficit they're also refusing to help the unemployed.

These congress people are crazy.  They believe the "markets" are insisting that the deficit be tackled immediately, even though there is no evidence at all that the markets are concerned  about the federal deficit.

The only ones concerned are the millionaires and billionaires who spend their days playing with their money and only want more money to play with.  The plight of ordinary people is not their problem - the problem, to them, is that the government is spending borrowed (or printed) money on ordinary people which may eventually affect their ability to amass fortunes.
