  •  I did not know the third branch (8+ / 0-)

the Supreme Court, was controlled by Democrats. Last I know, the ultra-conservative pro-corporate RATS (Roberts, Alito, Thomas and Scalia), plus somewhat less conservative Anthony Kennedy, who votes most of the time with the conservatives, had a working majority. Citizens United decision ring a bell for you?

But the supremes only vote on important stuff when their man isn't going to win Florida, and when Alito thinks that cops and corps have extra-constitutional rights.

Still, the Senate 'thinks' it's the third rail.  That Reid has failed to understand this for entire tenure as Senate majority leader (and the rest of the Senate Dems for playing comity) is a serious mar on FDR's legacy.  You never, ever win by whining.  You win by winning.

Rings true. When HCR was on it's way down the drain I was having second thoughts on the ability for Obama to govern in this climate and I'm a big Obama supporter - first candidate I ever gave a donation to in my life.

Passing the bill, even a weak bill, reassured me that at least the two majorities in Congress and the President can pass legislation.

That's why I disagreed with the kill the bill approach - I hardly doubt there would ever have been a chance of resuscitation.  At least with passing it now there is a new framework to improve and the average voter in November knows Democrats can govern.

So while the Supreme Court is an important player in our government system with Obama in office at least he gets to appoint the new justices.  I'm glad we have Sotomayor!
