Joint Kemp’s Ridley Turtle Release Makes Way for Oiled Turtles - June 12, 2010
View Release [Joint Kemp’s Ridley Turtle Release Makes Way for Oiled Turtles]

The release of 12 rehabilitated Kemp’s ridley turtles into the warm waters off Cape Charles, VA the morning of June 15 may help future oil-contaminated sea turtles. The Virginia Aquarium and the New England Aquarium have combined their "patients" for this release so that "beds" in their individual facilities might be available for oiled turtles from the Gulf of Mexico.   These highly endangered sea turtles will be returned to their natural habitat at the end of Randolph Ave. beside the Cape Charles Beach Gazebo at 11 a.m. Virginia Aquarium staff will conduct outreach education beginning at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited.

    •  The Sotry of Truttle..the Turtle (6+ / 0-)

One of you folks used the phrase  - "run beautiful girl"..about a sea turtle you were in clean waters..

that really broke me up..every time I think to myself..that phrase above - I get instantly sad and tearful..

the turtles are the worst for me to see..I used to catch them and even had a tiny little snapper I fed hamburger meat to...

      we called him Truttle..

One day Truttle the turtle was minding his own business when I went to clean his bowl..he slid accidentally into the toilet and as a young child I thought the water well up in the bowl..

when he disappeared I thought he would rise up if I flushed it and then I would catch him...imagine my horror when poor dear truttle went down the drain - I am still traumatized..
