to justify attempts to stop mountain top removal in the framework demanded by the commenter. There is no need to dignify the absurd notion that environmentalism is only about climate change. Conservation of endangered species has very little to do with climate change. Yet that is, no doubt, praiseworthy.

Protecting the environment is about protecting the home that we humans, one of many species, inhabit. Preventing climate change is but one of the many facets of it. Preserving habitats, preserving streams and rivers, stopping poisons from flowing from the mountain, and even protecting the aesthetics of the wild, are all worthy goals under the framework.

Biological conservation has disappeared in the past two decades, even among conservationists and environmentalists.  And people unquestioningly support renewable schemes that also have their downsides.  And don't seem to grab onto the most immediate solution we have available:  reduced consumption.  Unfortunately, reduced consumption is not compatible with a recovery to a state of unsustainable boom times.  More cars and housing starts, retail sales growing, etc.  Of course unsustainable population growth is rarely discussed, either.
