The only people who were laughing were doing so because they'd never been involved enough to know people could get paid for that.

Paying people has a lot of advantages.  Payed people will work harder and longer than volunteers, they complain and need to be coddled less, they take orders well, they're better trained, and become experienced quickly, they don't blink at working in bad weather, and spend more time in community so they get to know the people better.  Paying people for canvassing is good practice.

    •  No, that's not why we were laughing. (1+ / 0-)

We were laughing because we outnumbered them 10 to 1.

      And we beat them.

And they didn't care, because they got paid either way.

      That's why we were laughing.

If you'd been there, you'd know.

      •  I was there (0+ / 0-)

And I've worked on campaign's both ways.  There are a lot of factor's you're not considering, for one, how many Dem, vs. Rep houses were in the area?

Second, well trained people don't care about anything but work election day.  Volunteers want to screw around too much, don't finish what they start.
