I had to code message loops, IUnknown interfaces and free threades marshallers by hand to make the life easier for the VBA/VB5 drool brigades. ;)

We had no ATL or fancy wizards, we didn't even have 0s, we had to bang rocks together to get 1s.

make your own punchcards out of rawhide, too? And use meteorites and lodestones for your memory?

      Heh.

'Drool brigade' - isn't that the truth... While I worked with many good, conscientious VBA/VB developers, far too many were of the I-can-write-Access-macros-and-embed-ActiveX-controls-in-User-Forms-so-I'm-a-real-programmer-and-need -75K-a-year variety. And don't get me started on the FrontPage jockeys... ;-)
